About Jean-Luc Peeters: information security, cybersecurity, and practical professional learning

Jean-Luc Peeters is an information security and cybersecurity professional with more than 25 years of experience at the intersection of technology, risk, governance, and business needs.

His career has evolved from deep technical IT operations and infrastructure responsibilities into senior leadership roles in cybersecurity, information security management, incident response, and cyber crisis coordination.

Jean-Luc currently serves as Head of CERT.be at the Centre for Cyber Security Belgium, where he leads the national cyber emergency response capability, coordinates large-scale incident response, contributes to crisis management, and supports the development of mature security practices. His work includes strategic and operational responsibility for cyber emergency intervention, mobile SOC-related services, technical research, quality management, and the implementation of information security management systems.

Before taking on this role, Jean-Luc worked on information security policy, cybersecurity standards, European regulatory topics, risk management practices, and security assurance initiatives. He has contributed to the development and promotion of practical security guidelines and has acted as a technical expert on topics related to the NIS Directive, the Cybersecurity Act, and information security management systems.

Jean-Luc combines public-sector cybersecurity experience with a long private-sector background. At PwC, he held several IT leadership roles, including IT Leader, IT Technology and Operations Senior Manager, and IT Operations Manager. These roles gave him broad experience in IT governance, service management, infrastructure transformation, vendor management, business continuity, change management, and the alignment of technology strategy with business objectives.

His professional profile is strongly rooted in information security and cybersecurity frameworks. Jean-Luc is certified as CISSP, GISP, ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Implementer, ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Auditor, ISO/IEC 27001 Risk Manager, PRINCE2 Practitioner, ITIL Managing Professional, and SANS GSEC. As a PECB trainer, he teaches ISO 27001 and related cybersecurity topics with a practical, experience-based approach.

Through CyberMinute and NIS Institute, Jean-Luc also contributes to cybersecurity education and professional development. NIS Institute presents him as a trainer with extensive cybersecurity and information security expertise in both the public and private sectors, with over 30 years of field experience. His training style reflects his belief that standards, frameworks, and regulations only become valuable when they are translated into clear decisions, workable practices, and measurable improvements.

Professional focus: helping organizations improve cybersecurity maturity in a sustainable way: not by adding complexity for its own sake, but by making security understandable, manageable, and aligned with real organizational needs.

Jean-Luc values honesty, transparency, trust, and mutual respect. He is driven by practical impact and by the challenge of connecting technical depth with board-level priorities, operational realities, and the human side of security.
